A versatile writer, playwright and Founder & Editor of Indian Gothic Literary Magazine, Arpita's first short story, The Birthday Party, was published in The Shrinking Woman and Other Stories in 2009.
In 2014, her debut collection of short stories, Vices of Eden, received rave reviews on Amazon.
In 2025 and 2026, The Hooghly Review published two plays by Arpita. With a deep passion for storytelling and a keen interest in human relationships and the occult, Arpita explores a wide range of genres beyond literary fiction, drawing inspiration from classical and contemporary Gothic, horror, supernatural, paranormal, magical realism, speculative fiction, and theatre.
Currently, Arpita is working on a Gothic novel set in India. She lives in Bangalore and dreams of someday building a home in the Himalayas, a place of spiritual significance for her.
A young woman who can smell dead people desperately seeks recognition for her gift. A mother consumed with envy, denies her daughter justice against a capital crime. A dyslexic orphan floats through life in the shadow of her aunt yet hopes to find love. Vices of Eden, Arpita's debut short story collection, is themed after the Seven Deadly Sins & the Last Four Things. The stories explore complex and conflicting relationships women have with sin and the blurring lines between vice and virtue. Poignant and relevant to our times, Vices of Eden reveals the fragments and shades of women's lives that are constantly filled with fear, passion, desperation and hope, not necessarily in that order.
Readers were moved by the simple yet vivid portrayals of contemporary relationships in stories based on the Seven Cardinal Sins and the Last Three Things. Buy your copy now on Amazon!
